The Bargain Store

My life is like unto a bargain store
And I may have just what you're lookin' for
If you don't mind the fact that all the merchandise is used
But with a little mending it could be as good as new

I've been listening to a lot of Dolly Parton lately. After nearly four-and-a-half decades of number 1 singles, she remains one of the most successful female artists in the country music genre. I must admit that I don't listen to a lot of country music. But there is something very distinctive about Dolly's songs. Her 1974 album entitled Jolene is my favorite, with the title track a karaoke staple of mine (although, this is only after a few drinks and sounds nothing like Ms. Parton's original). I dream of visiting Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for one of her frequent music festivals. Perhaps my next vacation destination?

I could imagine myself wearing this outfit during my trip to Dollywood. The bold and colorful print of this thrifted dress reminds me of an impressionist-era painting. I paired it with my forest green shoulder bag and my favorite 1970s sandals (they never leave my feet!) And since the sun has been shinning lately, I brought along my boater hat.

The Thriftaholic (Leilani) :

Despite being from the South (or maybe because of it) I've always avoided country music. Lately, however, I've found myself listening to more folk music and I do have a soft spot for Dolly Parton.

Adore your splash of colour with the dress and you picked just the right accessories to pair with it.

Amanda, The Upside of Wonder :

I love this outfit! The colorful dress is perfect with the hat. Such a cute spring outfit.

To tell you the truth, I have never listened to Dolly Parton in my life, but I had one of her kid's books when I was little and my mom read it to me almost every night!

blakejacobsen :

I love that hat... Post after post, your blog always impresses me! Such good consistency.
