Equinox

I love looking through old family photographs. Although my parents have quite an impressive collection, my favorite pictures are of my mom and dad during the 1960s. Both were teenagers and their most memorable experiences as young adults were often captured on film. I must admit that my mom was a total babe. She had wavy black hair and an impressive collection of prairie dresses and heels (I wish she kept every piece of clothing for me). Looking back on these photographs, I can see parallels between my life as a creative 26 year-old and my mother's life as an outspoken young adult.

Inspired by the 1960s, I incorporated my floral crown into my outfit. This amazing dress- purchased from Static Vintage in the Haight/Ashbury District- is my new favorite piece for the Spring. Its short length, baby blue color, and floral detailing is perfect for the warmer weather. And the basket purse is a dream. I thrifted it many years ago for only a $1.00!

I wanted my pictures to mirror the grainy quality of my parent's photographs. I experimented with the settings on my camera to (hopefully) achieve a quality reminiscent of 1960s pictures. It was quite a lot of fun to frolic through the woods with my floral crown. I felt like a 1960s forest nymph. Are you inspired by old family photos as well?

Lovely outfit! I love the 60's vibe that you tried to emulate. It definitely worked. And I love that dress! It seems so perfect for the spring, especially paired with that bag. I totally agree with going through old photographs. It's kind of making me want to develop my photos now. Too bad it's so expensive!

My mother was a hardcore punk in the late 70s and early 80s; she looked awesome, though I can't say I'll be copying her technicolor cropped hair and combat boots myself, hehe.

The Thriftaholic (Leilani) :

Would love if you posted some of your family photos some time! I'm inspired more by the vernacular photos I find versus family photos... mainly because the ones I have are from the 80s.

Love the blue & yellow combo. The floral dress is wonderful too, I should consider shortening a few of my dresses.

Christina :

Lucy, Dear Fish :

I love these photos. You look like you've just been transplanted out of a hippie picnic, in the most wonderful way!
My parents don't have too many old photos. I have a few of them travelling through Africa and they are amazing; it seems they did lots of lounging about outside their landrover, wearing batik prints and drinking out of tin cans!
I had a sneaky look for those shoes in your etsy shop but I didn't see them, so someone must have snapped them up before me! Le sigh.

Victoria / Justice Pirate :

this is such a gorgeous dress. That is really cool to look through photographs of parents. I love doing that too.
