Good Love

I must admit I have a fondest for outerwear. This 1960s crushed red velvet peacoat may be my favorite due to its brass buttons, dainty pockets, and statement collar. I purchased the coat at Held Over in the Haight/Ashbury district last Fall before an impromptu trip to New York City. The coat definitely kept me warm in the brisk NYC Autumn weather, and it is just the right amount of coverage for a mild San Francisco winter.  The coat is the perfect match to this dreamy 1970s number. Originally a maxi dress, I found it buried deep within a pile of clothes at a thrift store. As much as I love a longer hem line, I have been loving shorter lengths for the Fall. I am a little lady at barely 5'3 so a raised hemline is a much needed break from some of the longer styles of the season.

Christy :

Oh my gosh, that coat! There is nothing cozier than velvet when the temperatures start to drop, and the rich burgundy color is perfect on you! And I think your dress really works at the length you've hemmed it to. (The shorter length helps balance out the sleeves.) I tend to go for midi skirts, but I've been trying to mix it up with some shorter pieces as well.

witch hare :

Ah, super lovely coat! The red velvet looks very soft.
You're so pretty in too.

Nicole :

Oh my goodness, I have been searching and searching for the perfect red velvet coat this fall... and you've found it!
It all looks amazing :)

Lydia :

Velvet! The best thing about fall and winter dressing.

Rae Veda :

That velvet coat is to die for! I love it so much. xo, rv

Charmalade :

What a unique coat! It looks like a less costumey version of the Willy Wonka coat, enabling you to wear it in everyday life with ease. And isn't that a win-win? Though I'm a bit jealous that in California falls, naught but a light coat can suffice to keep you warm.

Heather, 29 Skirts :

Aaaah, such a gorgeous coat! Velvet in that color is just...divine. Haha, I know that sounds pretentious, but it is.

Amber Blue Bird :

your dress is very pretty (and as a fellow petite lady I feel you on the hemline) but that coat is beyond brilliant. I need a coat like that in my life.

SomeoneLikeYou :

The gem tones of these pieces look so beautiful on your rich skin tone! xx

gee :

holy wow, that coat is beautiful.
love the length on the dress..i think altering it to a shorter length was brilliant. i am only 5'5 and wish i could wear longer lengths but they always look like i am swimming in them.
have a wonderful week jen.

So Yeah So :

I really really love that jacket! I am very fond of coats too, but hardly get to wear them because it's not cold in Georgia for very much time out of the year. You look so cute in this outfit, though! I'm jealous of your awesome coat!
