Perhaps it is inspiration from old photographs of San Francisco, but I have been recently dressing in nautical-themed attire. A classic trench coat and bow flats are recent thrifted finds. While this outfit is reminiscent of summer, San Francisco weather seems to have bypassed winter, with only the occasional rain showers. However, my enjoyment of a snowless winter may be short lived. I found out last week that I was accepted into a dual Phd program in Psychology and Women's Studies at University of Michigan. Is a move to the Midwest in my future? I do like the sound of Dr. Jennifer Rubin.
I've been re-reading some of my favorite feminist books from early college, with Kate Chopin's The Awakening on my current reading list. I've found this quote to be particularly fitting for the day: "The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clearing, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in the abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation. The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace."
