Trench Coat: 1970s Vintage:: Skirt- Vintage, altered:: Blouse- F21:: Bow- Handmade:: Shoes- Vintage:: Purse- Vintage
Perhaps it is inspiration from old photographs of San Francisco, but I have been recently dressing in nautical-themed attire. A classic trench coat and bow flats are recent thrifted finds. While this outfit is reminiscent of summer, San Francisco weather seems to have bypassed winter, with only the occasional rain showers. However, my enjoyment of a snowless winter may be short lived. I found out last week that I was accepted into a dual Phd program in Psychology and Women's Studies at University of Michigan. Is a move to the Midwest in my future? I do like the sound of Dr. Jennifer Rubin.

I've been re-reading some of my favorite feminist books from early college, with Kate Chopin's The Awakening on my current reading list. I've found this quote to be particularly fitting for the day:  "The voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clearing, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in the abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation. The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace."

Congratulations! You'll have to let us know what you decide-- I love the Midwest and moved to Chicago from Los Angeles for grad school so went through a similar transition. There's lots of vintage here to tempt you. ;)

Lovely outfit too, I adore the large bow in your hair.

i have read it quite a few times, and still wrestle with the awakening. you make it sound more beautiful than i remember.

and your outfit is adorable.

Vanessa :

congratulations! I actually left the midwest to get my PhD at Berkeley, and honestly, after 4 years, the non-winter here still weirds me out :) If the program is right for you, you'll love it!

By Sara Romero :

Why not move to the midwest for a couple years! Plus the sound of being a called Dr. is pretty cool. You already look like such a cute little researcher with that messenger bag and such a perfect coat.

I'm not sure if I could deal with those winters in Michigan but for a Phd I might be able to bear it for a few years. I remember reading Kate Chopin's The Awakening in college and being blown away by it. I had never read anything so honest before. That book along with The Yellow Wallpaper still give me goosebumps.

Tinfoil Tiaras :
